RC Basics
Whether you're a beginner or an experienced pilot, our club offers a welcoming environment to learn and grow your RC basic knowledge.
Starting off in RC you need a transmitter regardless of what your into, cars, planes, boats, anything RC. These can be purchased varying in cost based upon features of the transmitter. There are a few popular reliable brands such as Futaba, Spektrum, Jeti, along with various others which cost less but lack advanced features for menu programming.

These transmitters have menus just like a mobile phone or tablet which allow adjusting things to your preference. Its may sound complicated but in practice its simple.

Many people start the hobby with a combo package where the transmitter and plane, car, boat, drone, etc, are included. This saves a bit of time researching which transmitter to buy. A combo package gets you started and then you may choose to 'upgrade' your RC gear later with more experience.

Transmitters require things called receivers. These are what controls your plane, car, boat or what you have. Receivers are small matchbox sized gadgets that get the signal from the Transmitter which tell it what to do by using the Transmitter sticks.

There are many basic videos online available to watch about RC Transmitters and how to use them.

Engines & Motors
There are 2 types of propulsion, electric using batteries and combustion engines which use nitro fuel.
There are advantages and disadvantages of each.
With Electric there's:
less maintenance and mess to clean than nitro
faster acceleration in general
For Nitro:
Longer run times than batteries
nice sound
Need to buy gas
An RC nitro engine, also called a glow engine, is a miniature internal combustion engine used in radio-controlled cars planes and others, which is a fuel blend of nitro-methane, methanol, and oil, ignited by a glow plug
Its always best to run it on the rich side. Running too lean will damage the engine.

When buying fuel, make sure you pick the right one for the engine – airplane and car fuels have their own mixtures. In general, you can find fuels with a nitro mixture of 16–25%
Electric motors.
RC Electric cars and planes and boats use whats called Brushless motors. These plug into a speed controller which then plugs into the battery.
Batteries or Lipos have different capacities and power levels known as C ratings. The higher the C rating the better the performance.
